Relocation Services
Moving into the Peoria area for a new job? Moving away from Peoria?
If you are moving to another part of town or to another city 30 minutes away you can probably find a new
house with the help of a local REALTOR®. But what if your employer is transferring you a couple of
hours or a couple of states away? A Relocation Services company can help.
Relocation Services can help sell your present home, find a new home at the new location, provide
temporary housing, work with a moving company to transport your household goods, and even help
manage your relocation expenses.
The first steps is to determine whether you are already covered by a Relocation Service through your
employer. Some of the larger employers in Central Illinois such as Caterpillar, State Farm Insurance,
ADM, Ameren/Cilco, and OSF St. Francis can have agreements with relocation companies. Other
regional and national chains such as Sears, JC Penny, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Kroger also can have
agreements with relocation companies. Check with your current employer or future employer to see if
your transfer is covered to make sure you are not wasting time and money.
If you are not covered by an employer and still need help the next step is to determine how much help
you need. Do you need help locating a moving company or do you plan to rent a truck and move
yourself? Do you need to find a REALTOR® to sell your current home? Do you need to find a
REALTOR® to help you find your next home in the new location? What features (# of bedrooms, # of
baths, etc.) do you need in your new home? When do you need to be settled in the new location?
When choosing a Relocation Service look for reputation, quality, value, and a relationship to a relocation
network with contacts across the country to make this transition as smooth as possible.
